POLLACHI – The Department of English at NGM College, Pollachi, organized a grand literary festival to commemorate the 250th birth anniversary of the legendary English novelist, Jane Austen.
The event served as a bridge between eras, as BA English Literature students showcased their artistic talents through period-accurate skits and traditional ball dances. The performances aimed to recreate the social atmosphere of the early 19th century, paying homage to the setting of Austen’s most famous works.
The celebration also featured a competitive element, hosting an Intercollegiate Literary Meet. The competition drew a significant response, with 71 students from various colleges participating in a series of events designed to test their literary knowledge and creative skills.
“Our goal was to move literature from the page to the stage,” said a representative of the Department. “Seeing the students engage so passionately with Austen’s legacy after two and a half centuries is a testament to her timeless appeal.”
