Nallamuthu Gounder Mahalingam College (NGMC): Our Legacy of Excellence
Nallamuthu Gounder Mahalingam College (NGMC) has been a pioneer in higher education for over 60 years, dedicated to providing quality education and fostering youth development through a diverse array of programs.
Our Journey & Key Milestones:
- 1957: “Pollachi Kalvi Kazhagam” established by Shri S.P. Nallamuthu Gounder (President) and Arutchelvar Dr. N. Mahalingam (Secretary) to provide higher education facilities in Pollachi and Udumalpet Taluks.
- July 12, 1957: College inaugurated by Chief Donor Thiru S.P. Nallamuthu Gounder, starting with 160 students in Pre-University Course on a 26-acre campus.
- July 1959: Upgraded to a Degree College.
- 1975: Co-education introduced.
- 1976: All Degree Courses semesterised.
- 1979: Blossomed into a premier Post Graduate Institution.
- 1984: Celebrated Silver Jubilee.
- 1987: Conferred Autonomy by UGC; Value Education (Ethics and Culture) introduced for all UG Programmes.
- 1994: UGC offered Vocationalisation of degree programmes.
- 2004: Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) introduced.
- July 2007: Celebrated Golden Jubilee.
Distinctions & Modern Facilities:
- Awarded ISO 9001:2000 Certification by TUV.
- Received NAAC ‘A’ grade in March 2007.
- All buildings and staff rooms equipped with Internet and Intranet facilities.
- Developed into a premier Postgraduate teaching and Research Institution.
