Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, President of NGM College, is widely celebrated for his principled leadership, unwavering integrity, and profound humility. A scion of the Samathur Zamindari family, his journey blends sharp intellect with a deep commitment to humanity. After training as a barrister, he achieved national acclaim for his innovative contributions to the textile and plantation industries, recognized with a significant national award in 2024. Inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s vision of character development, Dr. Vanavarayar has dedicated much of his life to education, heritage, and cultural preservation. As Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and a driving force behind institutions like NGM College, SIIMS, and Kumaraguru Institutions, he advocates for a holistic education that instills values alongside knowledge. NGM College’s unique programs—”Ethics and Culture,” “Human Excellence,” “Uzhavu Bharatham,” and “Manayiyal Mahathuvam”—reflect his belief in preparing students for life’s multifaceted challenges. Beyond academia, Dr. Vanavarayar has championed vital community initiatives, including the Coconut Research Station at Aliyar, in partnership with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. His commitment to India’s rich cultural heritage is honored by the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in Podhanur and his leadership in the Tamil Nadu Government’s Rs. 100 crore initiative to establish the Saint Vallalar Research Centre. His influence has reached global platforms; in 2002, he was invited by Pope John Paul II to speak at the Day of Prayer for Peace, a message later published by the Vatican. His dedication to interfaith harmony was further recognized in August 2025 with the Fr. John Peter Peace and Harmony Award. Dr. B. K.
