NGM is unique and different. It’s a legend, ever ancient and ever new, painstakingly built over the last 55 years by the hard and combined efforts of all the stakeholders. It is a mystique that spells excellence, dedication, quality and relevance and the heart beat of the students and a household name in Pollachi. The department of economics is 55 years young – a moderate innings indeed but with dedicated service. Driven by experienced and highly qualified faculty, aided by a dynamic curriculum design and state-of-the art academic infrastructure, the department offers its students a course on par with the best institution of the region. The structure of the course as well as the academic rigour triggered of ensures that the students of the department of economics, are well-equipped with the analytical skills and the temperaments and talents required to grapple with the complex issues they would face in their chosen field. The department organises seminars, workshops and conferences with a wide variety of issues, to provide a platform for discussing and disseminating the latest economic issues at national and international levels.

All the faculty members are consistently publishing articles in journals, presenting papers in various seminars and conferences. The department has grown manifold and it offers at present research programmes like M.Phil., and Ph.D. The functional harmony existing among the faculty and students ensures a hassle free growth of the department.

Mission

To develop a perspective for an intelligent understanding of economic problems and impart training in the analytical framework of micro and macro economic analysis, statistical and mathematical techniques as well as economic theories to equip the students to handle quantitative issues analytically to meet the challenges of the corporate and financial world.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The department of economics created the forum – Econ-Voice which provides a platform to student-teachers to acquire the required knowledge, skill and develop positive attitude, values and beliefs. Econ-Voice have planned and in response to the present challenges like process of globalization, accelerated pace of technological progress, increasing social inequalities, undertaking rural development and poverty alleviation, progress of democracy and human rights, multi-culturalism, the feeling of insecurity, and moral decline

Activities:

Together we are collecting and presenting an authoritative regional, national and global developments and collaborate with senior and peer group students.
Through this meeting with thought provoking leaders of society, eminent academicians, industrialists etc., every student development can have the knowledge update about the issues, problems and aspects which helps to enrich their knowledge and solving those problems at their level best.
Econ-Voice, also encouraged the students to conduct and assist different competition (quiz, essays) in the college which develops their general knowledge and managerial skills.
Various interactive sessions are conducted periodically in the class rooms and initiate the students to participate in various inter and intra collegiate competitions.

Activities of the Econ-voice gives overall growth of the students and paves the way for better future in the modern, competitive and global environment.
