The academic administration and examination systems at NGM College are governed by a set of formal Statutes and Ordinances. These regulations ensure the maintenance of high standards in teaching, evaluation, and student conduct, providing a transparent framework for the conferment of degrees.

This section provides a summary of the rules regarding curriculum design, the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), examination protocols, and the criteria for successful completion of programs.

📖 1. Academic Statutes

  • Curriculum Authority: The Board of Studies (BoS) for each department has the statutory power to design and revise the syllabus. These revisions are subsequently ratified by the Academic Council.

  • CBCS Framework: All programs are governed by the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), allowing students to choose Core, Allied, Elective, and Foundation courses.

  • Attendance Requirement: As per the statutory mandate, a student must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in each semester to be eligible to appear for the End Semester Examinations (ESE).

  • Code of Conduct: Students must adhere to the institutional “Code of Ethics” as outlined in the Student Handbook.

📝 2. Examination Ordinances

The Office of the Controller of Examinations (CoE) operates as an independent body to conduct fair and timely evaluations.

  • Evaluation Pattern: A dual evaluation system is followed:

    1. Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA): Comprises mid-term tests, assignments, seminars, and attendance (typically 25%–40% weightage).

    2. End Semester Examination (ESE): Summative assessment held at the end of each semester (typically 60%–75% weightage).

  • Passing Minimum: * UG Courses: A candidate must secure a minimum of 40% in the ESE and an aggregate of 40% (CIA + ESE).

    • PG Courses: A candidate must secure a minimum of 50% in the ESE and an aggregate of 50% (CIA + ESE).

  • Malpractice Policy: Any form of academic dishonesty during examinations is dealt with by the Examination Discipline Committee, with penalties ranging from cancellation of the paper to rustication.

  • Grievance Redressal: Students have the right to apply for Re-totalling, Re-valuation, or a Transparency copy of their answer scripts within the stipulated time after result publication.

🎓 3. Degree Conferment

  • Eligibility: A degree is recommended only after the student has successfully earned the minimum required credits for the specific program as prescribed by the University.

  • Convocation: Degrees are formally conferred by Bharathiar University during the Annual Convocation, based on the results processed and submitted by the college.
