NGM College was founded through the collective vision of the Pollachi Kalvi Kazhagam, established in 1957. The institution is primarily defined by the legacy of two legendary figures who transformed the educational landscape of the region.

Thiru S.P. Nallamuthu Gounder

Founder & Chief Donor

  • Legacy: Known as the primary benefactor whose initial vision and generous donation of land and funds led to the birth of the college on July 12, 1957. 🏛️

  • Vision: He aimed to create an institution that would provide quality higher education to students from agricultural backgrounds in Pollachi and Udumalpet, ensuring they could compete globally. 🌍

  • Impact: He served as the First President of the college. Under his leadership, the institution established its core identity of discipline and “Parent-Child Connectivity” between faculty and students. 🤝

  • Honors: His centenary was celebrated in 1998, and a statue was unveiled on campus in 2009 to honor his contribution as the “Amarar” (Immortal) founder. 🎖️

🌟 Arutchelvar Dr. N. Mahalingam

Founder-Secretary & Patron

  • Profile: A legendary industrialist (Chairman of Sakthi Group), politician, and a Padma Bhushan awardee. 💎

  • Role: He served as the Founder-Secretary in 1957 and later became the President Emeritus/Patron. His “munificent donation” in 1959 allowed the college to upgrade from a Pre-University center to a Degree College. 📈

  • Philosophy: A staunch Gandhian and follower of Saint Vallalar, he integrated spiritual growth and human excellence into the academic curriculum. 🧘

  • Achievements:

    • Instrumental in the college achieving Autonomy in 1987. 🔓

    • Established the Dr. Mahalingam Centre for Research and Development (MCRD). 🔬

    • Known as “Arutchelvar” (Wealthy in Righteousness) for his philanthropic efforts in education, irrigation (Parambikulam-Aliyar Project), and social reform. 🏗️

  • Recognition: Conferred the Padma Bhushan in 2007 by the President of India. 🏅
